Privacy Policy

The short version

DeskScene is built so that as little data as possible exists in the first place. The app keeps everything on your own PC and sends nothing to us. This website sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and loads nothing from third-party servers. What is unavoidable technically is set out below.

Visiting this website

The site is hosted by Vercel Inc., 340 S Lemon Ave #4133, Walnut, CA 91789, USA. Requesting a page necessarily transmits data to their servers, where it is processed in server logs:

• IP address of the requesting device
• date and time of the request
• the address requested and the amount of data transferred
• HTTP status code
• referring page, where one exists
• browser type and operating system

This processing is necessary to deliver the site at all and to protect it against misuse. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a secure, functioning website under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. This data is not combined with other sources and is not used for advertising.

Because Vercel is based in the United States, data may be transferred to a third country. Vercel provides Standard Contractual Clauses under Art. 46 GDPR for this purpose and is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.

Storage in your browser

This site sets no cookies. If you switch between the light and dark theme, your choice is stored in your browser's local storage under the key deskscene-theme. That entry contains only the word light or dark, never leaves your device, and identifies nobody. It exists solely to provide the function you asked for and can be cleared at any time in your browser settings.

Getting in touch

If you email us, we process your address and the content of your message in order to answer it. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where a contract or its preparation is involved, and otherwise our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Messages are deleted once keeping them is no longer necessary and no statutory retention period applies.

The DeskScene app

The app contains no telemetry, requires no account, and transmits no usage data to us. Everything it produces stays in your own user profile:

• Profiles — window titles, process names, positions, sizes and monitor assignments of the windows you saved, plus any URLs you added
• Settings — hotkeys, monitor assignments and the app's switches
• Trial — the start date of your seven-day trial period
• Crash log — technical error details, if the app ever closes unexpectedly

To restore windows, DeskScene has to read their titles. Window titles can contain personal details such as file names or email subject lines. That information is stored locally and is transmitted neither to us nor to anyone else.

You can inspect, edit or delete these files yourself at any time — they are plain JSON. Because DeskScene is installed from the Microsoft Store, Windows keeps them inside the app's own package folder rather than in the general AppData directory:

Uninstalling the app removes that folder, and with it everything listed above.

Purchase and licence via the Microsoft Store

DeskScene is distributed through the Microsoft Store. On startup the app checks whether your Microsoft account holds a licence for the full version, which means communicating with the Store. The purchase itself is handled entirely by Microsoft — we receive no payment details and no contact details, only aggregated sales figures.

Microsoft Corporation is an independent controller for that processing, and Microsoft's own privacy terms apply to it.

Recipients and retention

Beyond the host and — for purchases — Microsoft, no data is passed on. There is no automated decision-making and no profiling. Server logs are kept only briefly by the host; email correspondence is retained for as long as handling it and any legal obligations require.

Your rights

You have the following rights in relation to the controller:

• Access to the data held about you (Art. 15 GDPR)
• Rectification of inaccurate data (Art. 16 GDPR)
• Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR)
• Restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
• Data portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
• Objection to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21 GDPR)

An informal email to help@deskscene.app is enough for any of these.

Right to complain

If you believe the processing of your data infringes the GDPR, you may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. The competent authority in Austria is the Austrian Data Protection Authority (Österreichische Datenschutzbehörde), Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna, dsb@dsb.gv.at, dsb.gv.at.

Changes

This policy will be updated when the processing changes — for instance when a new feature is added. The version published here is the one that applies.
