Hosting. This website is hosted by Vercel Inc. (USA). When you open a page, Vercel processes server log data: the IP address of your device, date and time of the request, the address requested and the amount of data transferred, the HTTP status code, the referring page where one exists, and browser type and operating system. This is needed to deliver the website securely and reliably (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Vercel keeps these logs only briefly. Vercel is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which covers the transfer to the USA (Art. 45 GDPR).
Reach measurement. To see how often the website is visited, which pages are read and which links bring visitors here, we use Vercel Web Analytics. When you open a page, a small script loaded from deskscene.app itself reports to Vercel: the address of the page, the referring page if you came from another website, and the time. From the request, Vercel also derives your approximate location (country, region, city), browser, operating system and device type. To count visits, Vercel forms a hash from the request that is discarded after 24 hours. No cookies are set and nothing is stored on your device; we only see aggregated statistics, never individual visitors, and nothing is linked with other websites. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in improving the website with a data-minimising measurement (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can object at any time: if your browser sends “Global Privacy Control” or “Do Not Track”, the script is not loaded at all; tracking blockers also prevent the measurement.
Microsoft Store badge. The “Get it from Microsoft” badge is the official image, loaded from Microsoft’s server get.microsoft.com as Microsoft’s badge guidelines intend. Loading it transmits your IP address and the usual request data (browser, page address as referrer) to Microsoft. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in showing the official Store badge (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The badge and the other Store links lead to the Microsoft Store; what happens there is covered by Microsoft’s privacy statement.
No cookies. The website sets no cookies. Fonts, scripts and images – everything except the Store badge – come from deskscene.app itself. If you pick a language, your choice is kept in your browser’s local storage (deskscene-lang); it never leaves your device.
E-mail. If you write to us, we use your address and message only to answer you (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR) and delete them when they are no longer needed and no retention duty applies.
Your rights. You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR); an informal e-mail is enough. You can also lodge a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority (Österreichische Datenschutzbehörde, Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna, dsb@dsb.gv.at).
The DeskScene app

The short version
DeskScene keeps everything on your own PC and sends nothing to us. There is no account, no cloud and no telemetry. The app only goes online for the Microsoft Store license check and the purchase, and to open websites that you add to a scene yourself.
What the app stores on your PC
Everything DeskScene produces stays in your own Windows user profile, as plain files you can read, copy or delete:

The Store version of DeskScene keeps %AppData% inside its package folder: %LocalAppData%\. Settings → “Open data folder” opens it. Uninstalling the app removes that folder and everything in it.
To recognize windows again, DeskScene reads their titles. Window titles can contain personal details such as file names or e-mail subjects. They are stored only on your PC and are transmitted neither to us nor to anyone else.
On its first start, DeskScene 2 reads the profiles and settings of version 1 (workspaces\, settings.json) to import them. It never changes or deletes those files.
Network
- Microsoft Store. DeskScene asks the Microsoft Store (through Windows) for its license: whether the trial is running, when it ends, and whether you have bought the app. A purchase runs entirely through Microsoft; we receive no payment or contact details, only aggregated sales figures. Microsoft is an independent controller for this processing, and the Microsoft Privacy Statement applies.
- Websites in your scenes. If you add websites to a scene and turn on “Open saved websites”, DeskScene asks your default browser to open them. What the browser and the websites then do is up to them.
- Nothing else. DeskScene has no telemetry, no crash reporting to us, no update check of its own and no advertising.
Apps it starts
When a scene starts an app, DeskScene passes the launch arguments you entered to that app unchanged. They are stored in the scene file on your PC and nowhere else.
Your rights and contact
